Norman’s Island by Little Mountain Animation

Little Mountain Animation is based in a suburb of Vancouver at the heart of a family home owned by Nathan Thomas, his wife and their two kids.

.

Norman’s Island is a twenty one minute animated series created by CG animation industry leaders interested in elevating the quality and speed of children’s programming using the real-time Unity engine. With stunning visuals and innovative technology, it is truly unlike anything seen on traditional broadcast television.

.

The plot follows Norman and Juniper, two siblings who are on the run from the evil Major Balmer, but before they can fly to freedom, the children crash-land in the middle of the deserted island. Well, maybe not totally deserted. Before long, they come face-to-face with a couple of the robotic inhabitants – Tex and Scout.

.

Norman’s Island is created using the real time platform Unity. We love the flexibility Unity gives us to collaborate and work quickly. We also employ many other innovative and resourceful tools and technologies.

.

Thomas, a senior animator at Industrial Light & Magic (BumblebeeGuardians of the Galaxy) and his best friend Bradley Sorochka, a character artist at Electronic Arts, resolved to embark on their first independent animation production after they posted a test shot on Twitter in 2018 and received a favorable response. The two artists are supported by Thomas’ partner Kimberly Thomas, an English teacher who developed the concept for a children’s series that celebrates friendship and teamwork.

It’s the kind of adventure that can charm kids and parents alike with its innocent joy and warmth. Not unlike a certain 80s marooned alien trying to find a way home.
